Board of syndics
Pursuant to section 122 of the Professional Code, each professional association has an office of the syndic. The mandate of the office is to investigate complaints brought to its attention.
What is a syndic?
The syndic is a midwife nominated by the Order’s Board of Directors to respond to requests for investigation received by the Order.
The syndic launches an investigation upon receipt of information indicating that a midwife has committed an offense under the Professional Code or the Midwives Act and its regulations. On his/her own initiative or at the request from the Board of Directors, the syndic can file a formal complaint with the Disciplinary Council for any justifiable complaint against a midwife.
You may send your request for an investigation along with written proof, where necessary, to the following address:
Bureau de la Syndique
1200, avenue Papineau, bureau 450
Montréal (Québec) H2K 4R5
Monitoring illegal practice
The Syndic’s office has been given the mandate of monitoring the illegal practice by processing reports of persons who, without being members of the Order, use the title of midwife, assign themselves a title or initials that may suggest that they are midwives, or who have a professional activity reserved for members of the Order.
